BATTERY DISPOSAL
Battery Disposal. All Uninterruptible Power Supplies are dependant on their batteries being well maintained and ventilated. They need regular replacement whatever their make or country of manufacture. These need to be removed and disposed of environmentally.
Health & Safety issues are paramount when handling corrosive batteries. Not only to prevent fire risk but also in case of acid slippage.
PowerContinuity undertakes the removal, disposal and replacement of thousands of sealed lead acid batteries every year.
PowerContinuity also handle the disposal of ‘wet’ acid batteries, which require very careful handling and disposal to the very fact of the batteries being ‘open’ and not sealed.
Batteries may look in perfectly good condition from the outside but look closer and you may see telltale leaks from terminals or even cell leakage from underneath.
Never assume that all is well when wishing to remove batteries.

ACID BURNS
Even the slightest amount of battery fluid can cause serious burns. Never remove any batteries from a UPS or Generator Housing without a PowerContinuity trained engineer present. Health & Safety procedures must be followed at all times to reduce the risk to your employees and premises.
FIRE RISK
PowerContinuity check Battery systems at least twice a year under a maintenance contract but you should also regularly check your own Battery if they are visible. If not then be aware of any sharp smells that could be acidic. At the slightest whiff of acid call PowerContinuity immediately.
Leaking batteries are a FIRE RISK. Never be complacent. It only takes one leaking battery to start a fire.
If you have been warned that you have leaking battery terminals or leaking batteries then for the safety sake YOU MUST REPLACE THEM IMMEDIATELY.
THE ENVIRONMENT
PowerContinuity Systems are actively protecting the environment by disposing of all batteries in accordance with UK and EU regulations. Never allow an unregistered company to handle your battery disposal as you have no idea where the batteries may be dumped.
