Experts warn of blackout danger
The report told how internal documents, that the BBC had obtained from the National Grid Transco, showed that urgent maintenance on the UK's power network has not been completed. The item reported that as a result of this:
"Experts in the power industry are warning there could be an increased risk of blackouts over the Christmas holidays and a future power shortages at peak periods of high usage.
We don't have the resilience in the network to cope with a surge in demand that occurs with bad weather and high domestic requirement."
