Power Supplies - North Yorkshire suffers major power failure
9000 consumers were affected after electricity supplies were disrupted at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire today.
Sub-stations were knocked out when a switch to an alternative feed failed.
The domino-effect power failure affected more than 26000 homes and businesses.
These sub-stations supply a further 17000 homes in the district, which also lost power.
The dark night became darker, as power was not restored for four hours.
The cause of the original power cut has not been identified.
