What's Happening to the power ?
Power Supplies - Vandals Attack Power Cables
Power outages aren't just caused by natural events they can also be deliberate areas of Vandalism causing financial loss to businesses that don't have any power protection systems.
Sunderland maybe known for the Angel of the North but it wasn't angels that caused a massive power outage to 4,000 electricity users across Sunderland.
Vandals fired a rifles at the insulators at the top of cable-carrying poles which caused the cable to trip.
This wasn't an isolated incident. "We've already experienced similar attacks earlier this month and the police still haven't been able to find the culprits.
The Vandals have no idea of the danger that they are putting themselves in, it could have killed them," stated a spokesman for Northern Electric Distribution.
As well as causing major disruption to power supplies, such attacks are very dangerous, putting the public and commercial premises at risk.
"It is impossible to Police the cable network," said a spokes person for the Sunderland local Authority, "we can only hope that this stupidity stops."

Engineers from Northern Electric were able to repair the damage and restore power after 12 hours. The long summer days of June helped as it allowed the engineers extra daylight to repair the high voltage overhead lines.
The only companies that didn't loose power were those with standby generators.
